List of food brands being recalled due to salmonella contamination
Got this email from my friend Lynn, about the salmonella outbreak foods recall that is going on. I’m sure you’ve heard about it in the news. Here’s what Lynn sent:
I am attaching an FDA list of brand name recalled food items containing the peanut butter paste used in various consumer products, which has been found to contain Salmonella. Please take a careful look to see if the Peanut Butter, Crackers, Cookies or any products, including dog biscuits, listed match with that you have in your home.
Here is brief excerpt from the recent WebMd Health News:
Jan. 21, 2009 — More than 125 consumer peanut butter products, from more than 70 companies, have been recalled in the ongoing U.S. salmonella outbreak.
The most recent person to get sick fell ill on Jan 8. Since it takes up to three weeks for cases to be reported to the CDC, more cases are expected. So far, the CDC has received reports of six deaths and 107 hospitalizations among the 486 people sickened in 43 U.S. states and one Canadian province.
Some of the most oftenly listed products that were recalled came from the following companies so check your labels. This is only a partial list so see link to complete report below.
Parnell’s Pride (lots of their products recalled)
This company also goes by Peanut Corporation of America
South Bend Chocolate Company
Wegman’s Swiss Recipe
Best Brands Corp
Austin Quality Foods
Luna (one of my favorites but haven’t bought any in quite some time.)
Also listed were products from Blanton’s, Hy-Vee, Classic Breaks and Landies. Again, partial list. See report for more information and keep in mind that even this report may not yet be complete as to all sources of the outbreak.
Most alarming was that there were several Walmart brand products on this list and everybody on the planet shops there so check with Walmart and check the list below for specific products. Your animal friends may also be at risk so check labels for pet foods from Great Choice.
