Did you catch the PBS show with Dr. Northrup? She is quite a funny lady. I had read her articles of course but had never seen her live. If they make a movie of her life, Felicity Huffman must play her. Absolutely must.

OK, casting comments aside, she was talking about how she used to come home at 4:00 pm and stand in front of the refridgerator and eat. She called her eating habits grazing because she said she’d start when she got home just nibble until she went to bed.

I understand. Completely.

She said it was glycemic levels that were changing because of peri-menopause. Now, I don’t remember the details. You could get her Wisdom of Menopause series and glean a lot more information that might be helpful for the menopause years. I’m almost there now. Coulda sure used her help for the past ten years though, ha.

Anyway, just eating right for healthy glycemic levels seems to be a vital thing to for peri-menopausal women to do. Stabilizing blood sugar levels by eating low glycemic index foods and avoiding consumption of a lot of high glycemic index foods can certainly help balance the blood sugar swings that may contribute to menopausal weight gain.

Unfortunately for some of us, high glycemic index foods include a lot of comfort foods like doughnuts, most pastas and my personal favorite, potato chips.

Most vegetables and beans are low glycemic index foods so you are pretty safe there.

Agave nectar is a low glycemic index food and I love the taste of it better than sugar or any other artificial sweetener.
