I’m guilty.

Although I am not nearly so apt to sit for hours typing as I used to be, the reality of maintaining several online website is that a large amount of sitting is enevitable. I’d love to be able to get one of those mobile desks I saw on a news show a while back. Did you see those? So cool.

Some company or another set their employees up with these desks that have treadmills under them. The employees walked while they worked. I love this idea.

Anyway, back to the subject – prolonged sitting and the difference between that and a simply sedentary lifestyle.

A sedentary lifestyle just means that a person does not exercise regularly.

Muscular inactivity, on the other hand, is a new term specific to how sitting for long periods of time and not moving your major muscle groups impacts health.

According to researchers from the Karolinska Institute, muscular inactivity increases health risks for several conditions including heart disease, diabetes and cancer besides the obvious risk of becoming more obese thru inactivity.
