Can Sofosbuvir and Simeprevir Really Cure Hepatitis C?

A Costly Possible Cure
There may be a cure for Hepatitis C but only the incredibly rich may be able to afford it.
The FDA has approved two drugs, Sofosbuvir and Simeprevir, for treatment of HepC. The side effects and dangers from these drugs appears to be far less than the use of interferon and they promise to work much faster.
Sofosbuvir is a “nucleotide analog inhibitor” and simeprevir is a drug in the same class.
Cost? Sofosbuvir alone can cost a grand per tablet. Yes, you read that correctly. One thousand dollars for one tablet. And it can take eight to twelve weeks of taking this drug daily in a HepC cocktail with ribiviran or the also costly simeprevir, to bring about a “cure”.
I don’t really care how long it took to develop these drugs. To charge a thousand dollars a pill is nothing but greed.
Personally, I’d go the natural antiviral route if I had HepC but if you are thinking of trying a HepC cocktail from your doctor, be ready to break your bank.
