Health Alert for Peri-Menopausal and Menopausal Women

Being a peri-menopausal woman, my ears perked up when I heard about Bisphenol A. It is present in most plastics used for bottled water. Like most people I know, I drink bottled water all day long. Even the Hunza type water that I sometimes get from a local health food store is stored in plastic that probably produced Bisphenol A in the water over time.

The big hubbub about this ingredient is due to studies, reaching as far back as the 30’s, showing that it has an impact on estrogen in the body.

I’m mentioning it here, not because I know the facts about it or much about it at all at this point, but to inform people that it is something that needs to be further investigated.

I’ve thought for a long time that glass was the best medium for storing anything. I also cook in glass as much as possible.

The trouble with glass is it costs more than plastic. However, I’d feel a lot better about my bottled water if that bottle was glass instead of plastic.

Anyway, I would think that anything which affects estrogen could affect menopause and peri-menopause so this is just an initial heads up about the issue.

As I learn more about it, I’ll share more.

Premarin and Avandia Cautions

Cautions if you take premarin for menopause - increased risks prompt FDA change in labeling

I just read that the FDA has made adjustments to labeling for premarin that include warnings if you also take Avandia. Please contact your doctor immediately if you take both Avandia and Premarin because this combination can increase risk of cardivascular problems. Learn more about Premarin and Avandia Safety

In this same report, the risks of taking premarin (and conjugated estrogens in general) is also covered. Premarin can increase your risk of dementia, deep vein thrombosis and stroke.

Many women choose to use natural menopause remedies to address the symptoms of menopause. If premarin risks are assessed too high in your case, you might explore the use of natural progesterone creme or other natural women’s health remedies.

Beauty Tip on Oily Skin

If your skin is oily, does that mean you should not use a moisturizer?  Answer from professional makeup artiste.

I recently worked on a pilot for either the television or web and my makeup artist was a fella by the name of Weston Blankenship. Weston is pretty darn amazing. He gave me the neatest updo hairdo and makeup in no time at all and then repeated it the next day.

In the course of our time together, Weston educated me about a few things. For example, I learned that one of the best powders on EARTH for absorbing excess moisture and preventing your skin from becoming oily under film lights (or office lights, for that matter) is called Karabo and is from Japan. I can testify because, normally, I have to be powdered down at least three or four times during the course of a filming day but with Karabo, no re-powdering needed at all.

However, this stuff is EXPENSIVE. If you can swing it, I’d say Karabo is worth the money. It actually contains spun silk.

Also, Weston told me one of the main questions he always gets from women is this one:

If my skin is oily, does that mean I’m using too much moisturizer?

Weston’s answer: No. That means your skin is not hydrated enough. That means you should use more moisturizer.

He explained that internal hydration of the cells from a properly hydrated body produce moisture on the skin but when that isn’t available, the body has to resort to producing oils.

Better to keep the body hydrated from within.
